It’s Thursday, January 22, 2026, and this is the news you need to know to start your day. Today’s edition of the Morning Wire podcast can be heard below:

Trump At Davos Strikes A Deal On Greenland

President Trump gave a highly anticipated speech on Wednesday at the World Economic Forum, slamming European leaders and reiterating his desire to acquire Greenland, which he now says he has a framework agreement on. Before Trump’s arrival in Switzerland, European leaders had banded together, offering a unified front against the United States, and Trump came out swinging, essentially telling members they need the United States a lot more than America needs Europe. The World Economic Forum is typically a venue for heads of state to discuss global cooperation and to push for policies they say will offer equal benefit to every nation. But in a wide-ranging 90-minute speech and Q&A session, the president reiterated what he has been saying for years on the campaign trail and from the Bully Pulpit: his number one priority is benefiting the American people, not the global order.

Michele Tafoya On The Mess In Minnesota

The investigations into officials in Minnesota have shaken the state – and shaken up its topline political races. Amid the turmoil, popular political commentator and former NFL reporter Michele Tafoya is jumping into the race for the Senate as a Republican candidate. Tafoya said she was inspired to jump into politics in part because of a “crisis of leadership” in the state. The former sideline reporter is running to replace retiring Democratic Senator Tina Smith. Despite the open seat, Tafoya faces a challenging campaign ahead in a state that has not been represented in the U.S. Senate by a Republican in 20 years.

Mr. Jack Smith Goes To Washington (Again)

Former special counsel Jack Smith is set to testify in front of the House Judiciary Committee on Thursday. His investigation into President Trump and the questionable tactics he used is expected to be a central focus of lawmakers’ questions. Expect fireworks. Smith has already been deposed once by the committee. It was closed to the public, though Republicans released a transcript. In front of the cameras, Republicans will have plenty to question Smith about, including some topics that have only come to light after Smith’s deposition last month. Lawmakers will also have another shot to ask Smith about spying on the phone records of some Republicans in Congress.

Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
